About PilsPosten

Where is the beer cheapest?

PilsPosten keeps track of what a half-litre costs at bars and pubs in Oslo, Trondheim and Copenhagen. It started in 2022 and is run by one person.

The story

From a list to a price guide

PilsPosten started in 2022 as a list of the cheapest places to have a beer. The list grew, and in time it became this website.

The prices come from several places. Many are noted on our own nights out. Friends pass on new prices they have seen, visitors confirm or correct prices directly on the site, and contributors add venues that were missing. A crawler also reads price lists that venues publish online themselves. The methodology page explains how this fits together and how reliable the numbers are.

PilsPosten is run and edited by Adrian Humle, the pen name of the person who collects, checks and publishes the prices and writes the articles. There is no newsroom, no company and no staff behind the site.

What can be dated.

The methodology page is published, and venues are linked to the Norwegian business register and the food-safety smiley scheme.

Principles

How PilsPosten works

Open method

How prices are collected and assessed is on the methodology page, along with what we do not know.

Every price dated

Each price is shown with the date it was last confirmed, so you can judge for yourself whether it is fresh.

Independent

PilsPosten takes no money from bars, breweries or anyone else in the alcohol industry. Nobody can pay for a better position.

Policies

Policies

The essentials on ads, privacy and content from users.

Ads

If ads appear on PilsPosten, they are served by Google AdSense and labelled as ads. PilsPosten does not sell ad space or data.

Privacy

Optional cookies are only used after consent. The privacy policy explains what is collected and who processes it.

Content from users

Comments and price suggestions are checked before they are published. Content that is wrong, offensive or advertising is removed.

For adults

PilsPosten is about what beer costs, not about drinking as much as possible, and is made for readers over 18.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Where do the prices come from?

From our own nights out, friends, visitors who confirm or correct prices on the site, contributors, and a crawler that reads price lists venues publish themselves. The methodology page has the details.

Can I submit a price?

Yes. On each venue's page you can confirm the price or suggest a new one. Suggestions are checked before they are published.

How does PilsPosten make money?

The plan is for ads from Google AdSense to cover the running costs. PilsPosten does not sell data, ad space or placements.

What is the half-litre price?

Every price is converted to what 0.5 litres would cost. A 0.4 litre glass at 89 kroner becomes 111 kroner per half-litre. The price you actually pay is shown next to it.

Know a cheaper beer?

Suggest the price on the venue's page, or send an email if something is wrong.
