The vast, colourful Market Square (Rynek), one of Europe's largest, is lined with richly decorated merchant houses and a grand Gothic town hall. Nearby, Ostrow Tumski (Cathedral Island) is the city's oldest quarter, where a traditionally dressed lamplighter still lights the gas lamps each evening. Wroclaw is also famous for the hundreds of little bronze dwarf statues hidden around its streets.
