Use this page to compare Solid with nearby alternatives in Tromsø before you choose your next stop. Central Tromsø sits on the east side of Tromsøya island, and nearly every venue is within a few blocks of Storgata. That is a practical consequence of the climate: the city lies more than 300 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, and short distances matter during the polar night. Ølhallen, the Mack brewery taproom, opened in 1928 and is the oldest pub in town; the rest of the offering mixes music bars, student rooms and hotel bars. The university keeps the population young and international, and the centre is noticeably more active than the population size suggests. Prices run above the mainland average. The Arctic Cathedral stands across the bridge, and the Fjellheisen cable car climbs Storsteinen for a view over the whole island. Northern lights in winter and midnight sun in summer set the seasons.
