Indre By is Copenhagen's historic core, the medieval heart where the city first grew up around its harbour in the 12th century. Today it blends royal grandeur with everyday street life: the pedestrianised Stroget, one of Europe's longest shopping streets, threads past cobbled squares and the candy-coloured townhouses of Nyhavn, a former merchants' canal.
