Majorstuen is named after the smallholding of Major Michael Sundt and is the main hub of Oslo's west end. Every metro line from the west meets at Majorstuen station before entering the shared tunnel under the centre, and several tram and bus routes cross here too. Bogstadveien, which starts at the junction, is Oslo's busiest shopping street, and the domed Colosseum cinema of 1928 is a local landmark. The area was built up with large brick apartment blocks around the turn of the last century and sits between Frognerparken to the west and Bislett to the east.
